”Kabuki makeover was the theme of the latest of Ichikawa Emizou's fascinating, up-close-and-personal "Iki-men" workshop seminars in which he interacts with audience members to let them experience the hallmark sense of flair and artistic creativity of the Edo period. After demonstrating the process and equipment needed to apply kabuki's special makeup called kumadori, Emizou made up a volunteer. Professional kabuki is an all-male domain, but it was one of the women in the audience whose face was transformed beyond recognition into that of an Edo super-hero. Through these workshops Emizou is doing a great job of making kabuki more accessible and meaningful to the ordinary person.”
